Overview
CHAI is hiring an Associate in the Malaria Control and Prevention program to continue supporting our work in that field. The Entomology and Vector Control Associate will support Cameroon’s National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) in strengthening entomological surveillance and improving the planning, implementation, and evaluation of vector control interventions. Working closely with CHAI teams and government partners, the Associate will analyze entomological and epidemiological data, identify evidence-based solutions, and contribute to the design of innovative approaches to combat malaria transmission.
Responsibilities
Technical Support & Entomological Expertise :
- Provide technical assistance to the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) on entomological surveillance and vector control interventions.
- Work with CHAI colleagues, government counterparts, and local stakeholders to identify entomological data gaps and ensure evidence informs intervention selection, targeting, and timing.
- Conduct rigorous analyses of entomological and epidemiological data to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of vector control strategies.
- Support the design, implementation, and monitoring of entomological surveys, insecticide resistance monitoring, and vector bionomics studies.
Program Implementation & Evaluation :
Collaborate with government and partners to identify and prioritize intervention coverage gaps and support the rollout of new malaria prevention tools.Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of vector control campaigns, including impact assessments and operational performance reviews.Rapidly develop and adapt work plans to address emerging vector control challenges with minimal supervision.Strategic Planning, Reporting & Knowledge Management :
Contribute to the formulation and drafting of strategic plans, national technical guidelines, operational manuals, and donor proposals as well as stakeholder capacity building.Support the preparation of programmatic and donor reports, lessons-learned documents, and external communications such as concept notes and policy briefs.Translate technical evidence into actionable recommendations for the NMCP, CHAI teams, and partners to guide programmatic decision-making.Stakeholder Engagement & Innovation :
Develop and maintain strong relationships with government stakeholders, CHAI teams, donors, research institutions, and implementing partners.Identify new opportunities within and beyond the initial project scope, proactively anticipate risks, and propose solutions.Promote bespoke innovation in malaria vector control interventions in Cameroon through operational research, uptake of new tools, and sharing of best practices.Other Responsibilities :
Identify new opportunities within and beyond the initial project scope, proactively anticipate risks, and propose solutions.Perform any other duties as assigned by management to support CHAI’s malaria program.Qualifications
Professional Experience :
Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience demonstrating a proven track record of success in managing a diverse portfolio of projects, especially in malaria vector control.Education :
Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, Parasitology, Biology, Entomology, or a related scientific field.Basic knowledge of Entomology and Vector Control interventions, showcasing a specialized interest in the field.Technical Skills :
Expert proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint for data analysis, reporting, and creating impactful presentations.Experience in designing and implementing entomological surveillance systems to track vector populations, species composition, and disease transmission dynamics.Expertise in evaluating the efficacy of various vector control tools and interventions, such as Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS), Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs), and larval source management.Knowledge of global health guidelines and policies from organizations like the WHO regarding malaria control and vector management.Soft Skills :
Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills complemented by a strategic mindset and strong attention to detail.Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and work autonomously to balance a demanding workload.Excellent written and oral communication skills, coupled with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships in a multicultural environment.
